§ Mr. Gregor Mackenzieasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will outline his plans for assisting areas in Scotland likely to be affected by closures in the steel industry.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantOfficials of my Department will co-operate with the Scottish Office and the Department of Employment in the special reconstruction team which is being set up under the direction of the Scottish Economic Planning Board to tackle the consequences of the rationalisation of the steel industry in Scotland. They will advise in particular on the use we should make of the Industry Act to attract new jobs. Six new advance factories will be built in steelmaking areas in Scotland in the next two years under the new programme announced last month.
