§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases of motoring offences involving drink or drugs were not proceeded with because the alleged offender claimed diplomatic immunity in each of the last five years; and to what missions such persons were accredited.
§ Mr. CarlisleThe following table shows the number of motoring incidents reported by the police in England and Wales in 1971 and 1972 in which there was some indication that drink or drugs might be involved, and in respect of which the possibility of criminal proceedings was not pursued because of diplomatic immunity. I shall write to the hon. and learned Member giving him the figures for the earlier years as soon as they are available. In such cases the Foreign and Commonwealth Office express concern to the appropriate head of mission.
