§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsThe canal is graded as of doubtful quality and needing improvement (Class 2), except for a small section of poorer quality (Class 3) in the Salford area. It is my Department's general policy to achieve a major further reduction in water pollution, and this is happening. But responsibility for the control of water pollution within this area, and for determining priorities within it, rests with the Mersey and Weaver River Authority.
