HC Deb 14 February 1973 vol 850 c361W
75. Sir F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many security incidents in Ulster have taken place in total and in the categories of deaths, personal injuries, and damage to property during the 327 days preceding Her Majesty's Government's political initative on 24th March 1972, as compared with the 327 days following it.

Mr. David Howell

Between 2nd May 1971 and 23rd March 1972 there were 7,710 security incidents resulting in 234 deaths and 2,713 injuries requiring hospital treatment. From 24th March 1972 until 13th February 1973 there were 9,655 security incidents resulting in 428 deaths and 3,631 injuries. It would require disproportionate effort to extract details of property damage from police records for the periods stated.
