HC Deb 14 February 1973 vol 850 cc353-4W
72. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of council houses currently standing empty in the city of Dundee; and what estimate he has made of the cost to ratepayers of the loss of housing revenue thereby resulting.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

My latest information is that there are about 1,600 empty council houses in Dundee. On the basis of the current average standard rent of local authority houses in Dundee, the loss to the housing revenue account would be of the order of £180,000 a year.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has yet completed his investigation into the number of council houses in Scotland currently unoccupied; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I regret that I do not yet have comprehensive figures.
