§ Mr. Loveridgeasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what proportion of United Kingdom total industrial output in 1971 and in 1972 was accounted for by the private sector of industry;
(2) what proportion of United Kingdom total industrial output in 1971 and in 1972 was accounted for by the nationalised industries.
§ Mr. EmeryEstimates made from the information readily available show that the nationalised industries accounted for approximately 12 per cent. of total United Kingdom industrial output in 1971 and 1972. The private sector accounted for the bulk of the remaining 88 per cent.; but a small proportion is produced by the public sector other than nationalised industries, which cannot be estimated precisely.
