§ Mr. Dudley Smith1,547 persons or firms were prosecuted under the Factories Act and associated regulations by Her Majesty's Factory Inspectorate in 1972 involving a total of 3,604 charges, on which there were 3,386 convictions. Of these charges, 2,616 related to safety, on which there were 2,468 convictions. It is regretted that all of the information required for an estimate of the number of persons seriously injured during 1972 in premises or operations subject to the Factories Act is not yet available.
