§ Mr. CarlisleBy 5th February 40 community service orders had been made in the three probation and aftercare areas where community service schemes were first introduced on an experimental basis on 1st January 1973.270W The schemes have not been in operation long enough for information about expenditure to be available, but it was estimated when the Criminal Justice Bill was introduced in 1971 that five experimental schemes might cost about £110,000 in their first year of operation.
