§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will give, over the most recent period for which statistics are available, the total number of accidents on motorways in which a fatality has occurred, the number of such accidents in which a lorry was involved, and the approximate percentage of total motorway traffic represented by lorries.
§ Mr. PeytonIn the first 10 months of 1972 there were 148 fatal accidents on motorways involving about 300 vehicles of which 70 were heavy goods vehicles. In this period heavy goods vehicles accounted for about 19 per cent. of motorway traffic.
