asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many prosecutions were made and how many convictions obtained of owners of vehicles causing excessive exhaust pollution in each of the past five years.

Separate figures relating to owners of vehicles are not available. The numbers of prosecutions and convictions in England and Wales for unlawful emission of smoke and other substances from motor vehicles in the latest five years for which figures are available are as follows:
