§ Mr. Maginnisasked the Minister of State for Defence how many officers of the Ulster Defence Regiment are, or were, citizens of the Republic of Ireland; and whether he is satisfied that their employment does not infringe security.
§ Mr. BlakerAll officers at present serving in the Ulster Defence Regiment are citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies, as required by the regulations. Their acceptability for employment with the regiment was carefully considered before they were appointed. I cannot say, without making individual inquiries, whether any of them were formerly citizens of the Republic of Ireland.
§ Mr. Maginnisasked the Minister of State for Defence whether officers of the Ulster Defence Regiment are permitted to visit the Republic of Ireland in an official capacity; and if so for what purpose.
§ Mr. BlakerThe answer to the first part of the Question is "No".
