§ Mr. Whitlockasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the National 49W Health Service prescription charge exemption certificate which is issued to a mother, and which is normally valid until her child is one year of age, is withdrawn immediately if the baby dies within a few days of birth; and if this practice is in operation, what are the reasons for withdrawing the exemption from a woman who may be emotionally disturbed by the loss of her child and in need of medication.
§ Mr. AlisonWhile entitlement to exemption under the category covering pregnant women and nursing mothers normally ceases when a woman is unfortunate enough to lose her baby, steps would not be taken which would be likely to add to her emotional distress.
