HC Deb 01 February 1973 vol 849 c451W
Q13. Mr. Jay

asked the Prime Minister what action the Government intend to take to prevent British professional standards being damaged by EEC proposals for harmonisation.

Mr. Barber

I have been asked to reply.

None of the proposed European Community directives for the mutual recognition of professional qualifications has yet been adopted. They will have to be considered by the Council of Ministers in the normal way, taking into account the views of other Community institutions as appropriate. There is no intention of allowing British professional standards to be lowered, and professional bodies concerned will be fully consulted to this end.
