§ Mr. Stanbrookasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a further statement concerning the registration of engineers for mutual recognition in the EEC.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineAs I indicated in my Written Answer to the hon. Member for Bromsgrove (Mr. Terry Davis) on 19th November—[Vol. 864, c. 299–300]—I have agreed with the Council of Engineering Institutions that mutual recognition within EEC should be sought for all adequately qualified engineers, whether they are in membership of institutions inside or outside the CEI. For this pur-372W pose it has been agreed with the CEI that there shall be an extended register of engineers having these qualifications. Significant progress has been made and it now remains to work out the details and the machinery by which these proposals can be put into practice. My officials are continuing urgent discussions with interested parties to this end.
