§ 23. Mr. Jesselasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the position of the two British subjects, Paul Mason and Robert Curtis, who were, on 6th December, convicted of espionage in Yugoslavia.
§ Mr. Anthony RoyleI understand that an appeal will be lodged as soon as the two men receive the court's written judgment. This is likely to be handed down by the end of this week. In these circumstances it would be neither right nor helpful for me to say anything which could be construed as interference in Yugoslav judicial processes. We have, however, been in touch with the Yugoslav authorities throughout and have more than once made known to them our close concern about this case.
