HC Deb 17 December 1973 vol 866 cc249-50W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what are the current rates of duty on imports of frozen beef, chilled beef, frozen sheep meat, chilled sheep meat and wool; and what these rates will be on 1st January 1974 in the light of the anticipated requirements at that date.

Sir G. Howe

Rates from 1st January 1974 are set out in the Import Duties (General) (No. 8) Order 1973, and present rates are set out in the orders it revokes. There are no changes on that date in import duties on beef. On most third-country imports of sheep meat the rate will change from £0.9335 per cwt. to £0.5601 per cwt. plus 8 per cent.ad valorem. Most wool is and will remain duty-free, although for certain forms at present subject to a 5 per cent. duty the rate is being reduced to 3 per cent.
