HC Deb 17 December 1973 vol 866 cc251-2W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what is his latest estimate of the bed occupancy rate in hotels in the Greater London area; and what was the figure for the corresponding month in the last year before the inauguration of the Hotel Development Incentives Scheme;

(2) if he will specify the rules governing repayment of grant paid under the Hotel Development Incentives Scheme in circumstances where a recipient hotel is subsequently sold or placed in liquidation;

(3) what plans he has to exercise his powers under the Industry Act to provide financial assistance to the hotel industry to enable it to overcome the problems of concrete product platforms, respectively, giving details of the designers of such items.

Mr. Anthony Grant

A considerable number of companies are capable of building some of the smaller steel structures. The following are the principal United Kingdom companies known to me as either building or wishing to build large platforms for the deeper waters:

over-capacity resulting from the Hotels Development Incentive Scheme;

(4) whether he will make the repayment of sums provided, under the Hotel Development Incentives Scheme, to the Piccadilly Estates Hotel Company for hotels which have subsequently been closed a condition of further financial assistance to that company from public funds; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I will let my hon. Friend have replies as soon as possible.
