HL Deb 17 December 1973 vol 348 c178WA
LORD NAPIER AND ETTRICK

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How people are expected to keep their garden machinery (such as rotavators) running when it is against the law to have a petrol tin filled up at a filling station.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD DRUMALBYN)

The law does not prevent anyone from acquiring motor fuel in cans for use in non-motor vehicles (including horticultural machinery) within a reasonable time, provided that they have established the practice of obtaining regular supplies in this way during the six months preceding November, 1973.
