HC Deb 13 December 1973 vol 866 c176W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) whether, in view of the change of practice of the Price Commission to one of rejecting applications to it which are justified in substance because they are defective only in drafting, he will dismiss the Chairman of the Price Commission;

(2) if he will dismiss the Chairman; of the Price Commission because the commission has claimed to disallow an application for an increase in the price of frozen foods from Findus Limited which was never submitted.

Sir G. Howe

No.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether, in view of the failure of the Chairman of the Price Commission to understand that the counter-inflation legislation does not make it illegal for garages to increase the price of petrol to 50p a gallon, he will dismiss the Chairman of the Price Commission.

Mr. Tom Boardman

No. Nor do I accept my hon. Friend's interpretation of what has been said by the Chairman of the Price Commission.
