HC Deb 11 December 1973 vol 866 cc104-5W
Miss Quennell

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement defining the responsibilities of the Paymaster-General in the Treasury, and those of the Secretary of State for Employment with the Treasury.

The Prime Minister

The responsibilities of the Paymaster-General will cover the whole range of the work of the Treasury, save for public expenditure.

The Secretary of State for Employment, in addition to discharging all the existing functions of his office, will be available to act as the Chancellor of the Exchequer's deputy in the field of counter-inflation policy.
