HC Deb 03 December 1973 vol 865 c274W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the schedule of repayments of capital and of interest payments on foreign currency loans contracted by local authorities and the nationalised industries since 1st January 1972.

Mr. Nott

Repayments of principal on loans raised in foreign currency for domestic purposes since 1st January 1972 are due as follows :

US $ million
1978 499
1979 642
1980 577
1981 459
1982 213
1983 169
1984 9
1985 9
1986 9
1987 11
1988 12

It is not possible to estimate precisely the amounts payable in interest since a large part of the borrowing is on floating rate terms. At present rates, interest payments in the first five years would amount to some $200 million a year.
