HC Deb 19 April 1973 vol 855 cc199-200W
Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to ensure that crofters whose land is reserved for industrial or commercial purposes are paid compensation at the rate appropriate for such types of development.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Compensation for the compulsory acquisition of land is governed by the Land Compensation (Scotland) Act 1963. It will also be affected by the provisions of the Land Compensation Bill at present before Parliament. It is the Government's intention to propose further amendments to the Bill to improve the position of crofters.

The Government's proposals for the reform of crofting tenure will, if Parliament approves them, in due course considerably assist crofters in this respect.
