HC Deb 18 April 1973 vol 855 c109W
30. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the state of the water supply in Great Britain following the recent relatively rain-free winter, with particular reference to precautionary measures that might be taken by the public now to minimise the need for drought orders later in the year.

Mr. Graham Page

Currently, of the 156 public supply undertakings in England three small undertakings are imposing some restrictions. Another 50 undertakings may need to take similar steps if dry weather continues.

The supply situation varies from one area to another. It is best left to the individual undertakings to issue appeals to the public for economy in the use of water.
