§ Mr. MacArthurasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made in the development of courses and facilities in schools and further education colleges for pupils remaining at school as a result of the raising of the school leaving age.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellEducation authorities, which are primarily responsible for the development of courses and the provision of facilities in schools and further education colleges, have been active both in planning new courses and preparing teachers for them. My Department has given, and continues to give, much guidance about suitable curricula, including papers published on the recommendation of the Consultative Committee on the Curriculum. Much has already been done to give pupils a worthwhile education during their additional year at school and development work is continuing. Additional accommodation and facilities have been and are being provided.
