§ Mr. Norman Lamontasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what number and what proportion of retirement pensioners have total incomes from all sources of (a) on and below the supplementary benefits level, (b) below two-thirds of national average earnings, (c) above the same as national average earnings and (d) over national average earnings, respectively.
§ Mr. DeanIt is estimated that at the end of 1971 about 80 per cent. of married couple pensioners—1,350,000 couples— and about 95 per cent. of single pensioners—3,500,000—had gross weekly incomes of less than £20.
