HC Deb 09 April 1973 vol 854 c218W
Mr. Haselhurst

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she can estimate the number of children in England and Wales requiring special education for whom places are not yet available; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

15,487 children were awaiting admission to special schools in England and Wales as at 1st January 1972. Most of these children were in ordinary schools and may have been receiving special help there. An increasing number of special school places will be provided as announced in the White Paper "A Framework for Expansion".
