§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what extra administrative machinery is envisaged within the Department of Health and Social Security as a result of his decision to 236W concentrate the campaign against dishonest social security claims within the Department rather than accept the Fisher Committee's recommendation of a standing committee to supervise the control of such abuse; and what extra cost he estimates will be involved for the Department of Health and Social Security.
§ Sir K. JosephMy hon. Friend the Under-Secretary will have the administrative and management resources of the Department at his disposal. No extra secretariat will be required, and I do not expect staff increases to result from the arrangements which I have announced in preference to those recommended by the committee.
