asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total area of derelict land in the urban districts of Washington and Chester-le-Street and the rural district of Chester-le-Street respectively; and how many acres of land were reclaimed in these areas in each of the last three years.

On 31st December 1971 there were 203 acres, 121 acres and 572 acres in these areas respectively: of this, 201 acres, 121 acres and 517 acres justify restoration. 48 acres, 69 acres and 65 acres respectively were reclaimed in the period 1970 to 1972.
