HC Deb 09 April 1973 vol 854 cc202-3W
Mr. David Clark

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the progress of the brucellosis eradication scheme; and if he will make a statement on future plans.

Mrs. Fenner

The voluntary Brucellosis Incentive Scheme continues to make good progress, and 55 per cent. of all testable animals in Great Britain are now in scheme herds. Compulsory eradication is proceeding in a number of areas and will extend to further areas during the course of this year. Eradication in Norfolk and Suffolk has however had to be postponed until November because of the demands imposed on the Ministry's veterinary staff by the outbreaks of swine vesicular disease in recent months. The future compulsory eradication programme in England and Wales is currently under review and an announcement will be made in due course.
