HC Deb 06 April 1973 vol 854 c168W
Mr. Harold Walker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, as part of National Tree Planting Year, he will replace the trees and shrubs removed from the central reservation in the course of the recent widening of the Al trunk route.

Mr. Peyton

Where possible, trees and hedges were preserved, but it is not general practice for road safety reasons to plant trees in central reservations. 33,000 young trees were, however, planted along the sides of the road as part of the improvement scheme.
