Mr. Joel Bamettasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on investigations he is making into the evasion of income tax and corporation tax by labour-only sub-contractors, commonly known as lump labour.
§ Mr. NottTwo men have been charged with giving false information in order to obtain exemption certificates: both were convicted and fined. Other prosecutions for similar and other offences are pending. Many other cases are already under inquiry, and searches for further cases of evasion are continuing.
