HC Deb 04 April 1973 vol 854 c95W
Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many primary schools there are in Scotland (a) in rural areas and (b) in urban areas.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Statistics of numbers of primary schools do not distinguish between rural areas and urban areas. In general the smaller the school the more rural the area in which it is located is likely to be. At January 1972, the last date for which figures are available, there were 2,493 education authority primary schools and departments of which 990 had rolls of 100 or less, and 309 had rolls of 101 to 200.
