HC Deb 04 April 1973 vol 854 c99W
Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many licences to ride motor cycles and mopeds were issued in 1972.

Mr. Speed

Provisional licences do not distinguish between different groups of vehicle and full licences for one group often also cover others. Separate figures for motor cycles and mopeds are not therefore available.

Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many motor cycles and mopeds were registered in 1972.

Mr. Peyton

In 1972, 152,519 motor cycles were newly-registered in Great Britain, of which 52,140 were mopeds, 6,653 scooters and 93,726 other motor cycles.
