§ 56. Sir Gilbert Longdenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the results of his discussions with a deputation from the Joint Committee of Ex-service Organisations on 15th February 1973.
§ Mr. DeanMy right hon. Friend gave the joint committee deputation a categorical assurance that the Government will continue to give special treatment to war pensioners and war widows. The substantial increases in war pensions and the special allowances for the severely disabled and war widows which my right hon. Friend announced in the House on 7th March to take effect from 1st October this year are a recognition of our determination to maintain that tradition. [Vol. 852, c. 412–428.]
