HC Deb 03 April 1973 vol 854 cc50-1W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will state the number of prescriptions dispensed annually by chemists under the National Health Service in the Leek parliamentary constituency, or the most closely related area for which figures are available in each of the past 10 years.

Mr. Alison

The information requested is collected on an executive council basis and the most closely related such area is that of the Staffordshire Executive Council. Boundary changes were, however, made to this area in 1965 and 1966.

The number of prescriptions dispensed under the National Health Service by chemists, drug stores or appliance contractors in the Staffordshire Executive Council area, as constituted in the relevant year, for each of the last 10 years, is shown in the following table:

Year Number of prescriptions (thousands)
1963 3,702
1964 3,875
1965 4,573
1966 3,484
1967 3,004
1968 2,972
1969 2,973
1970 3,030
1971 3,021
1972 3,146
