Mr. Alexander Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many occupational training centres are available in Scotland for the mentally handicapped; and what areas have been selected for expansion of this programme.

There are at present 66 junior occupational centres for children of school age and 67 adult training centres, provided by local authorities in Scotland. There are also 10 adult centres provided by voluntary organisations, and one private junior occupational centre.

Twenty-eight new centres to be provided over the next five years have so far been proposed by the following local authorities:

Junior Centres (7) Glasgow Corporation; Angus, Ayr, Dunbarton, Fife, Lanark, and Renfrew County Councils.

Senior Centres (21) Dumbarton, East Kilbride, Glasgow (2), Kirkcaldy, Motherwell and Wishaw, and Stirling Town Councils.

Ayr (3), Clackmannan, Dunbarton, Fife (2). Inverness, Kirkcudbright. Lanark, Ross and Cromarty (2), Roxburgh, and Stirling County Councils.
