HL Deb 21 September 1972 vol 335 cc1401-2WA
LORD COTTESLOE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether public funds are being made available to enable Leeds City Art Galleries (Temple Newsam House) to acquire an object of outstanding importance.

VISCOUNT ECCLES

Yes. I am proposing to make available, subject to Parliamentary approval, a special grant of £9,250 to this local collection, through the Victoria and Albert Museum Fund, towards the purchase of an exceptional Louis XV Bureau Plat by Bernard Van Riesenburgh. In addition, the Fund will make a further grant of £5,750 from money already voted, making a total contribution from public funds of £15,000.
