HC Deb 26 October 1972 vol 843 c375W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give a breakdown of the monthly cost of £1 million for the settling of the Ugandan Asian immigrants, giving the costs of the Resettlement Board, the wages and/or salaries of its staff and personnel; and what action is taken to control the expenditure and to ensure that there is not wastage of money on these activities.

Mr. R. Carr

I made it clear to the House on 18th October that the estimated cost I then gave was very tentative. Parliamentary approval will be sought for the expenditure of the Uganda Resettlement Board in the normal way and I must ask the hon. Member to await the presentation of Estimates. The board's expenditure will be audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General, as is the case with other agencies to which public funds are made available. I have given directions to the board about their financial procedures.
