HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 cc303-4W
52. Mrs. Shirley Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been found guilty of offences involving mugging so far in 1972; what the figure was for 1971; what are the ages of those sentenced for this offence; and what is the number who were unemployed when the offence was committed.

Mr. Carlisle

There is no agreed definition of "mugging". The most relevant figures are those for offences of robbery or assault with intent to rob.

The following table gives particulars of the persons found guilty in England and Wales in 1971 of these offences. No figures for 1972 are yet available. Information about the occupation of an offender is not at present collected.
