HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 c302W
Mr. Fowler

asked the Attorney-General whether he can now detail the net cost, current and capital, of administering the law courts in England and Wales, excluding magistrates and juvenile courts, for 1971–72.

The Attorney-General

The estimated net cost of administering the courts, other than magistrates' courts, in England and Wales during the year 1971–72, so far as it falls on the Lord Chancellor's Office and Courts Vote, was £5,611,000. This does not include expenditure by local authorities up to the 31st December, 1971 on Quarter Sessions and other courts abolished by the Courts Act, nor receipts from tines imposed by those courts.

Details of the expenditure on court accommodation, both on capital and current account, are not readily available, but my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor will write to my hon. Friend about this as soon as possible.
