HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 cc331-2W
47. Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many decisions he has made in respect of planning inquiries in the area within a three-mile radius of Failsworth Golf Course.

Mr. Graham Page

Since June, 1970, my right hon. Friend has made three planning decisions following local inquiries on proposals arising within three miles of Failsworth Golf Course. This figure includes the Failsworth Golf Course Case.

Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will state his policy in relation to the maintenance of land currently used as golf courses; how many representations he has received from members of the public and hon. Members concerning Failsworth Golf Course.

Mr. Graham Page

I attach great importance to the retention of golf courses and other recreational facilities in urban areas but planning proposals affecting them must, like all planning proposals, be considered on their individual merits. I have received representations about my decision on the Failsworth Golf Course appeal from six hon. Members and 1,529 members of the public.
