HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 c317W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what support his Department has given to the concept of a world centre for disaster relief; if Her Majesty's Government will consider giving financial support to the United Nations for establishment of such a world centre; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kershaw

Her Majesty's Government played a leading part in promoting the establishment earlier this year of the Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Co-ordinator. The Office is financed by the United Nations Regular Budget to which the United Kingdom is a major contributor. The Co-ordinator will be making proposals for the further development of the United Nations disaster relief effort.
