HC Deb 24 October 1972 vol 843 c215W
34. Mr. Edward Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by what percentage wages, salaries and prices, respectively, have increased since June, 1970.

Mr. Higgins

There are no separate figures available for wages and salaries, between June, 1970, and August, 1972 (the latest month for which figures are available). The index of retail prices and the index of average earnings rose respectively by 18.3 per cent. and 22.5 per cent.

35. Mr. Rose

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will increase the figure of £2 for wage increases to take into account rent increases under the Housing Finance Act.

Mr. Higgins

It would be wrong to relate the figure for wage increases to any particular element in living costs.
