asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will state the total amount of compensation paid to former colliery owners since vesting day 1947.

Mr. Emery

Total compensation for assets transferred on vesting day amounted to £388 million, of which £309.6 million was paid to former colliery owners and £78.4 million to former owners of mineral rights.
