HC Deb 23 October 1972 vol 843 cc184-5W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the policy of his Department concerning the progress of the inquiry currently being conducted by the Commission of the European Economic Community into the allegations of dumping of acrylic fibres by Japan, South Korea and Taiwan; and whether he is aware of the concern felt throughout the British textile industry about the threat to their own production.

Mr. Noble

We are aware of the Commission's anti-dumping investigation, but we are not directly concerned since it relates to alleged dumping into the existing Community of Six. The Department also knows of the concern of some United Kingdom spinners about low-priced imports and offers of acrylic yarn from South Korea and Taiwan though the industry has not, so far, made a formal anti-dumping application.
