§ Mr. Boscawenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to extend further the arrangements whereby war pensioners can receive regular visits through the War Pensioners' Welfare Service.
§ Mr. DeanThe regular visiting scheme for war pensioners which is at present available to: 143W
will from 1st January, 1973, be extended to cover all 1914 War pensioners with assessments of 50 per cent. or more, and all 1939 (or later) War pensioners with assessments of 80 per cent. or more. During the next two years the Department's welfare officers will be making contact with about 14,000 war pensioners who will under these extended arrangements be included in the scheme for the first time.
- (a) all pensioners who are receiving constant attendance allowance or unemployability supplement;
- (b) all other 1914 War pensioners whose disablement is assessed at 60 per cent. or more;
- (c) all other 1939 (or later) War pensioners whose disablement is assessed at 100 per cent.
Members of War Pensions Committees and attached voluntary workers will, as hitherto, be responsible for the follow-up visiting of pensioners who express a wish to receive regular visits under the scheme.
