§ Mr. Michael McNair-Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will be delegating responsibility for the authorisation of pedestrian crossings in London to the Greater London Council.
§ Mr. PeytonI have recently approved arrangements allowing for a maximum of 3,690 pedestrian crossings on non-trunk roads in Greater London and for a minimum number of 2,400. Within these wide limits the Greater London Council is free to establish or remove crossings on roads other than trunk road without reference to me. The signals element of "Pelican" crossings will still require my approval for the time being.
