HC Deb 18 October 1972 vol 843 c89W
Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council has reported on the question of the prescription of acrylamide poisoning as an industrial disease; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dean

The council has reported to my right hon. Friend, who has accepted its recommendation that poisoning by acrylamide monomer should be prescribed under the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act, 1965, in respect of occupations involving the use or handling of, or exposure to, acrylamide monomer.

Regulations amending the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations in the terms recommended by the council have been laid before the House today and will come into operation on 13th November, 1972.
