§ Miss Fookesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many hoteliers and boarding house keepers he estimates have failed to apply for a fire certificate in accordance with the provisions of the Fire Precautions Act, 1971; and if he will make a statement about the operation of the Act.
§ Mr. LaneInformation is not available on which to base a detailed estimate, but I know that a substantial number of applications for fire certificates have been submitted to fire authorities in England and Wales; and I believe that these authorities are making steady progress in the enforcement of the Act in their respective areas. Further orders extending the operation of the Act to other premises will be made in due course.
