HC Deb 17 October 1972 vol 843 c50W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will introduce legislation to prohibit the sale of persistent chemicals which cause uncontrolled ecological damage.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

My right hon. Friend the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food already has arrangements for evaluating the potential effects of agricultural and food storage pesticides before they are marketed for use in this country. Any damage by chemicals used in other industries is most likely to occur if they are released into the environment as waste. I am considering how best to avert or minimise the risk from these other sources.
